Celebrities who failed or never took their A-levels this results day

Spoiler, they’re all pretty rich now

Let’s face it, waiting for your A-level results is nothing short of terrifying and once you’ve sat those exams, there’s nothing more you can do but pray that you get the grades you need.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t always work that way, but failing your exams isn’t the end of the world and there are still plenty of opportunities. To prove this point, plenty of celebrities who didn’t do so well at school or flunked their A-levels, and still managed to have successful careers.

All these celebs failed or never took their A-levels, but are now loving life:

Jeremy Clarkson

If you didn’t know by now that Jeremy Clarkson got a C and two Us in his A-levels, seriously, where have you been hiding? Jezza loves to rant on Twitter every year on results day about his failed exams and how it doesn’t matter anyway because he’s incredibly rich. He has an estimated net worth of £55.8 million and is the current Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? and Clarkson’s Farm.

The Twitter ritual began in 2014 when he tweeted: “If your A-level results aren’t cheering, take solace in the fact that I’ve got a C and two Us. And I’ve got a Mercedes Benz.” In the following years, he revealed that he was on a super yacht and decided which of his Range Rovers he was driving.

For this year’s offering, he wrote: “Don’t worry if your A level results are disappointing. I have a C and 2 Us and am currently on holiday on this boat” – accompanied by a picture worthy of ‘a ship below deck and beautiful scenery. Great flex.

Carey Mulligan

Carey Mulligan, who starred in Pride and Prejudice, The Great Gatsby and Promising Young Woman, said her A-level results day was “not great” and she was apparently rejected from every drama school she went to apply for.

Carey got a job during her gap year and didn’t end up going to college. Just goes to show you don’t need A-levels to make it to Hollywood.

Russell Brand

St Trinian’s star and comedian Russell Brand has quite a successful career and is well known in show business for his wild personality. And he married Katy Perry, which is definitely a big win.

However, he never got a single level and was reportedly even kicked out of the Italia Conti Academy after his first year for illegal drug use and poor attendance.

Brand once tweeted: “Good luck with your exams but don’t take it too seriously – I’ve got no A-levels and now I’m studying for A-levels, it’s all rhubarb.”

Girls Aloud singer and legend Cheryl left school at 16 with no qualifications. She rose to fame in 2002 on the TV show Popstars: The Rivals where she landed a spot in Girls Aloud. Cheryl started her solo career in 2009 and has been an icon ever since.

Countless pops and a baby with Liam Payne later, the former X Factor judge is worth an estimated £15m and was the first British solo artist to have five UK number one singles.

Jeremy Corbyn

Another celebrity who (almost) failed his exams, former Labor Party leader Jeremy Corbyn left school with just two A-levels at grade E, the lowest possible pass grade. He went ahead and showed us all that you don’t need a degree to be a politician… I can’t say I’m that surprised.

Gemma Collins

Reality star and worldwide iconic diva Gemma Collins left school at 16 with a U in GCSE maths, but it didn’t faze her. Gemma told you: “I remember sitting in the exam room for my maths GCSE and thinking, ‘I’m going to be famous, I don’t need maths.’ What I really need is to go down to Romford High Street and buy some new shoes.”

Gemma really is living her best life… even without her Maths GCSE! And if it’s good enough for Gem, then it’s good enough for me.
