Major stock benchmarks retreated last week, with the Nasdaq down 2.6%, the S&P 500 down 1.2% and the Dow Jones Industrial Average down fractionally. The S&P 500’s weekly drop snapped a four-week winning streak. Contributing to the pullback were retail sales numbers that were hotter than expected if the impact of auto sales is excluded, and fears of a more aggressive tightening of the reverse gear federal they returned after the minutes of their last meeting this week.
